How does the Rx watch work?

The Rx watch uses USB technology to help patients with chronic conditions manage their medication and monitors their adherence rates.

There are four main aspects involved in the proper adherence to prophylactic medication.

These four main aspects are as follows below:

Scheduling - The RxWatch plugs into a personal computer through a mini USB port. When the wearers plug their watch into their computer the watch’s microprocessor launches a program on the computer. Users will be able to set their medication schedule according to time, dosage, and date. When the user clicks save, the wearer’s data and personal settings are saved to the watch, before the watch’s USB can be disconnected.

Availability - Most medication reminders sold on the market today are either too bulky to carry during activity, or lack a convenient, safe compartment to store and carry medication. For active people with chronic conditions, it is vital that both the reminder system and the medication travel with the individual. They should not have to change their schedules just to take their medication properly. The Rx watch solves both problems by being a stylish watch and an insulated compartment engineered to protect wearers’ medication. 

Protection - Most medications have to be protected against exposure to extreme temperatures, intense light, or moisture. Failure to protect medication can reduce or eliminate its effectiveness. Engineers designed the RxWatch, so that medication would not be compromised. The medication cavity is insulated and waterproof. Our designers also added a soft red plug to protect the mini USB port that's inside the watch from dust or dirt. This will insure that wearers’ information and medication is kept secure.

Information is Key - Staying on schedule with chronic medication is so vital that we have written a program to record the time and date a user takes their medication. Every time the cavity door is opened for longer than 2 seconds, the RxWatch makes a mark on a graph. The graph is easily viewed on a personal computer. If users wish to view their results or share them with a medical professional, they can plug their watch into the computer and click the “Am I Staying On Schedule?” button. The information indicated by the graph will be retrieved and displayed immediately.
